OFT: Annual report, magazine, publicity materials

Stakeholder magazine, annual reports, publicity materials and web content for government dept

Through a wide range of business writing assignments over several years, I helped the Office of Fair Trading inform and influence stakeholders such as businesses, consumer groups, journalists, politicians and lawyers.

My relationship with the OFT started when I was editor of its quarterly stakeholder magazine Fair Trading for four years. I worked with the client to plan each issue and then wrote content and managed a team of freelance contributors, photographers and a design agency. I also looked after print and delivery.

Over time, I took on many other corporate communications, publicity and marketing projects for the OFT. For example, I wrote:

  • the OFT annual report for five consecutive years (with an associate)
  • leaflets and other publicity materials including a leaflet warning consumers about scams and a pocket guide to competition law for small businesses
  • web content about competition and consumer law, the OFT’s powers and careers at the OFT.

All of this work demanded in-depth understanding of the complexities and legal nuances of the OFT’s work and the ability to write clearly and engagingly without compromising accuracy.
